Social & Introduction to Deep Learning
2/1/2018
Our first event for the Spring 2018 started with a social that included some very delicious pizza and soda. We then confirmed Herman Autore as President of the chapter. The second part of the meeting was an introduction to Deep Learning by our colleague from the Scientific Computing department, Nathan Crock. Nathan Crock has taught himself machine learning methods, and we wanted to hear his take on this technology.
The meeting was a great success. There was a lot of interest, as you can tell by the questions asked. Even more people approached Nathan individually after the presentation. We look forward to more collaboration across all of our university's departments!
Introduction to LaTeX

The second event for Fall 2017 was a duo presentation by our graduate students Jing Zeng, a first year, and Adam Duncan, a fifth year. We were very happy to have Adam present since he is graduating this year. We're glad he was able to leave behind some of his wisdom with us before he left. Jing Zeng had plenty to contribute, too, however, as he was equally adept at using this technology. Their materials are available for download below.
Jing Zeng lectures on the basics of LaTeX
Adam Duncan goes beyond Jing's lecture, talking about templates and other details.
There was a lot of interest on how to use LaTeX. Some of our members were very impressed with the information.
