Scholarship Award

About the Award

The Biopharmaceutical Section Scholarship Award was established in 2018 by the Biopharmaceutical Section of the American Statistical Association to recognize notable research, academic achievement, and applied project work related to the area of biopharmaceutical statistics. The award will also consider general academic performance, leadership, volunteering, and service. Annually, up to five students will each receive an award of $3000. However, based on the number of submission requests and available funds, the scholarship committee may request additional funding from the Biopharmaceutical Section Executive Committee and present additional awards.

Selection Criteria

  1. Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree and be enrolled in a Master’s or Doctoral program in statistics or biostatistics, or be enrolled in a Master's or Doctoral Program with a concentration in Statistics or Biostatistics
  2. While membership in the Biopharmaceutical Section is not required, ASA membership is a requirement.
  3. Award winners from the previous year (i.e., 2025 BIOP Scholarship Award winners) are not eligible.
  4. To enhance diversity of recipients: a) no more than 2 winners can come from the same University; and b) winners of the 2026 Biopharmaceutical Student Paper competition are not eligible to receive a BIOP Scholarship award in 2026.

Nominations

Students should submit use this form to submit their application. The application requires transcripts (unofficial copies are acceptable).

Applications for the 2026 BIOP Scholarship Award should be submitted between January 1st and March 15th, 2026. 

Award Recipient Responsibilities

The award recipients are responsible for providing a current photograph and general personal information the year the award is presented. The American Statistical Association uses this information to publicize the award and prepare the certificate. If a student attends the Joint Statistical Meetings, the student should make every effort to attend the Open Business Meeting of the Biopharmaceutical Section where they will receive the award in person.
