CHAPTER AWARD CRITERIA 
  • This Award is established to recognize local statisticians who have made outstanding contributions to applied, methodological, and/or theoretical statistics research. Nominees should have an established career in the greater Philadelphia area for at least five years and have demonstrated national and international recognition for exemplary scholarly accomplishments since their terminal degree. This award will be given to a maximum of one recipient per year. Nominees with demonstrated contributions to the ASA Philadelphia Chapter and chapter activities are favorably reviewed. Self-nomination is allowed. Nominations not selected will remain for consideration for an additional two years if the nominee continues to work in the Philadelphia area and would like to be reconsidered.

The chapter offers two awards in teaching excellence – one for college or university educators and one for K-12 educators. These Awards are established to recognize local educators who have consistently inspired within their students a love and passion for statistics. Nominees should have at least five years of teaching responsibility as part of their primary job description in the greater Philadelphia area. This award is given to a maximum of one college/university educator and a maximum of one K-12 educator per year. The college/university educator can be in a tenure/tenure-track position or teaching-track position. Nominees with demonstrated contributions to the ASA Philadelphia Chapter and Chapter activities are favorably reviewed. Self-nomination is allowed. Nominations not selected will remain for consideration for an additional two years if the nominee continues to work in the Philadelphia area and would like to be reconsidered.

  • Excellence in Statistical Practice Award

    This Award is established to recognize local statisticians who have made outstanding contributions to statistical practice in all areas of applications. Nominees should have an established career in the greater Philadelphia area for at least five years and have demonstrated dedication to solutions or improvements over existing approaches, and had an impact or potential impact on real-world practice. This award will be given to a maximum of one recipient per year. Nominees with demonstrated contributions to the ASA Philadelphia Chapter and Chapter activities are favorably reviewed. Self-nomination is allowed. Nominations not selected will remain for consideration for an additional two years if the nominee continues to work in the Philadelphia area and would like to be reconsidered.

  • The ASA Philadelphia Chapter Student Awards are established to honor outstanding undergraduate students who intend to pursue research careers in quantitative disciplines including but not limited to statistics, biostatistics, and data science, and outstanding graduate students for their accomplishments in research, teaching, participation in departmental and/or university activities toward professional development in quantitative disciplines including but not limited to statistics, biostatistics, and data science. This award will be given to a maximum of two undergraduate students and a maximum of two master’s or Ph.D. students per year from schools in the greater Philadelphia area. To be eligible for the undergraduate award, an individual should be in their junior or senior year or have recently entered graduate school and received their undergraduate degree within the past 12 months. To be eligible for the graduate student award, the individual should be currently enrolled in graduate school or have received their graduate degree within the past 12 months.  Nominees with demonstrated contributions to the ASA Philadelphia Chapter and chapter activities are favorably reviewed. The recipient of this award will receive $200.
