Title: "You lookin’ for police data? I got a guy…"
Speaker: Loren Atherley
Date: February 18, 1-1:30pm ET
Abstract: In a digital world, police data has never been more abundant. Yet access to those data remains elusive. Operational security, privacy concerns, and the generally obscure nature of policing makes obtaining and working with police data challenging. There is hope, however. The "pracademic" movement—which aims to apply academic research methods and analysis to solve real-world problems in policing—is opening a vital conduit. Through this channel, valuable data and subject matter expertise are becoming available, and police organizations are often actively seeking research partnerships. This brief webinar will orient you to this emerging landscape, outline some of the practical problems currently being addressed, and direct you to resources you might access while sourcing data for your next project.
